Student tests Facebook’s social networking muscles and wins big

students

I think this is big. This is the first time I’ve seen facebook used as an SW (Social Weapon) outside of political campaigns.  Which begs the question. What else can we do with this beast?

an excerpt from The BBC article:

A student campaign using the social networking website Facebook has forced an international bank into a U-turn over charges.

HSBC is to abandon plans to scrap interest-free overdrafts for students leaving university this summer.

Thousands of students on Facebook had threatened to boycott the bank. The National Union of Students said this made all the difference to the protest.

The HSBC bank said it was not too big to listen to its customers.

Web APIs, what can you say about em? They are glittering things on the outside but can sometimes be soft and mushy on the inside.  In the hands of a decent programmer, a tool for building web dreams, if she can navigate through all of the legalese. Join me as I take on some the big APIs and some of obscure ones.  We’ll talk about the programming side as well the business and licensing angle. Recenlty, Facebook made a big deal about developers being able to make some green for their labors at their F8 conference. Yeah, I guess we might as well begin with them.Stay tuned.
